Huxley Roadside Services: A 30-Year Journey of Growth with International Mowers
When Wayne, the owner of Huxley Roadside Services, began his journey over 30 years ago, he couldn’t have imagined it would lead to becoming a powerhouse in the roadside maintenance industry, recently securing a major contract for the Mornington Peninsula Shire and Frankston Council.

The Beginnings of Huxley Roadside Services
Wayne’s story began with a bold decision. “I was supposed to buy a car,” Wayne recalls with a laugh. “Instead, I bought an old front deck mower and wrote to 80 schools, landing just one contract. It wasn’t much money, but it was a start.”
Over the years, Wayne expanded his services, tackling the challenging world of roadside maintenance with a 12-foot mower, a reach mower, and a verge mower. Contracts began rolling in, like the one in Cranbourne worth $13,000 a year. Today, Wayne’s fleet includes top-of-the-line machinery, like the six new attachments for the mowing contract: three Seppi M. SMO avs and three McConnel Power Arm PA6475s.
These machines have become essential to Huxley’s operations. “We have always used McConnel reach mowers. They are the highest quality and best performing,” Wayne says. “That’s why we just ordered three more,” highlighting the importance of reliable equipment.
A Partnership Built on Trust
As the company grew, so did Wayne’s need for dependable equipment. For over 20 years, he has relied on International Mowers to meet those needs. “They’ve always provided excellent service, with parts in stock,” he explains. “And if they can’t get a part, they’ll even take it off another machine to keep us going.”
Wayne’s loyalty to International Mowers is rooted in their dedication. “I’ve been doing this for over 30 years, with many ups and downs, but I have always used International Mowers,” Wayne shares. “When you find a partner like them, you stick with them. They always return your calls, and if something breaks, they’re there to fix it. They even opened up on Easter for us so we could keep going.”
Wayne’s journey hasn’t always been easy. “The hardest part of this business is dealing with people pricing too cheaply,” he notes. “It’s tough when others undercut with lower prices, but we’ve stuck to our principles of quality and service.”
This perseverance paid off when, 30 years to the day after winning his first significant contract, Huxley Roadside Services secured a new deal worth $28 million.
Wayne’s philosophy is simple but powerful: “When you go broke, get up and work harder.” This mindset has transformed Huxley Roadside Services from a modest operation into a leading provider in roadside maintenance across Victoria.
Wayne’s journey proves that perseverance, trust, and the right partnerships can turn small beginnings into great achievements. It’s a testament to the power of building lasting relationships and staying true to one’s principles, regardless of the challenges faced along the way.
